Biris
Goddess
of Agriculture, the hunt and fertility
Biris
is seen as a minor agricultural deity by those who dwell in
places like Vertange or Perlis, though she has a lot of followers
outside the big cities, these being mostly farmers but a lot of
hunter-gatherers also pray to her for a successful hunt.
You
can often find small improvised shrines for her on the countryside
made from flat stones stacked to form a small tower. Near these
shrines, fertile farms and edible plants are more
likely to be found, allowing those who pay respect to
Biris to survive more easily when on the road.
She
is most often depicted as a young female holding either a sickle or a
hunting bow.
Biris
is not known for warring with her fellow gods. She tends to stay away
from conflicts if they are not a matter of survival, largely giving
both her and her followers a neutral nature.
The
only thing known to truly earning her ire is the mistreatment or
mismanagement of land and wildlife. Hunting a species into extinction
or indiscriminately carving away at the forests in which she dwells
upsets both Biris and her children, the dryads.
Most
of her followers take good care of their farmlands and forests, in
part due to this but also in part due to practicality. Those who
worship Biris oft speak of sudden strokes of luck, coincidences such
as an usually large harvest when drought strikes a nearby village or
a deer kneeling before them rather than running away while game is
sparse.
The
mantles of power that are associated with Biris are:
-
agriculture
-
wildlife
-
forests
-
the natural cycle of death and rebirth
